Katharine Simon, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the UC Irvine School of Medicine and the Assistant Director of Research in Pediatric Sleep at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. She is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in pediatric health and behavioral sleep medicine. Dr. Simon’s research focuses on the mechanisms linking sleep, memory, and mental health across development in both healthy and clinical populations; the modification of memory through sleep; and the creation of novel sleep-based interventions. She conducts longitudinal remote monitoring of youth and young adults’ sleep, mood, and cognition through personalized mobile health platforms that she developed, HowRU and MindCycle, and integrates wearable technology to capture biomarkers related to mental health. Her work is supported by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
